I have RA, I am 33 and have 4 young kids. I had gastric bypass in 2011 so I am unable to take NSAIDS! I am seeing an RA doc and we are still working to find the right mix of drugs to send the RA in remission or to make it "quiet" as my doctor says. It is the joints in my hands and has now spread to my feet. Some days are harder then others but the only other thing they can treat me with are pain killers. Which my PCP has to prescribe and doesn't like doing but its the only thing that gives ANY relief. My question is, is there a way that they can come together and make a plan for pain control or because this is considered a chronic pain illness should I consider seeing a pain management specialist!?

My left hand had been numb for 3 weeks now and my orthopedic Dr said there was nothing to do for it until I have a MRI done, what can I do to relieve some of the pain and get some feeling back in my hand and fingers?

I am on my 60's and have some arthritis in both knees and have had a meniscus tear repaired in one knee years ago. I have somehow developed a pointed bump below the kneecap on each knee! They don't hurt except when I directly kneel on them, they just look weird. My knees aren't too bad with aches and pains and seem worse when I don't exercise. My questions are: What do you think bumps are? My primary doc said nothing much could be done. But how did I develop them at this age? For creaky knees, what is best exercise (I try to walk 3 miles 2-3 times a week and use some machines at rec center 1-2 x per wk) and is Krill and hyaluronic acid good for them?

Good afternoon, i've been experiencing severe knee pain for several years and was treated with Supartz injections. The pain was never relieved and I'm hoping to avoid replacement. The pain gets worse as I'm getting older. Any suggestions?

I've also been dealing with low back pain for years as well, MRI shows normal. Now there is numbness along my right though when I lie on my back. Are there any other tests that could be done that could pinpoint the problem?

I've never had a sit down job and have always worked on my feet. Now my knees are causing me a great deal of trouble. I suspect it's my feet and the shoes I have to wear. I used to be able to afford red wings but now have to rely on a lesser cost brand. Could this be part of my problem

Which is better - riding an exercise bike or using an elliptical machine? I have had left knee pain under the knee cap and behind the knee since before Feb and don't want to aggravate it more but need to exercise.

I have Ehlers-Danlos type 3 with osteoarthritis and my knees have been turning red, swelling and hot to the touch. Is this just from the hypermobility of my Patellas or should I be concerned about something more?
Also, don't forget next month is EDS awareness month :) -
Three years ago, I had the series of Supartz (5 of them) injections in my knee. The last injection caused my knee to swell, turn red, and hot to the touch. The injections gave me three full years of no pain. My sports medicine doctor said that he would not give them to me again since I showed an allergic reaction on the last injection. What are your thoughts about getting another series of Supartz? It was such a great relief for my pain. I too have EDS.

I am 44 male. and have noticed that past few months that my fingers (both hands) feel 'tight' whenever i make a fist - like rubber bands. I have also noticed that at night, I sometimes have tremors in arm - primarily in left but sometimes in right arm. Spoke to mother about problem - she mentioned that she was recently diagnosed with 'essential tremors'. Could this be a part of that? And what do you need to do to see doctor if you don't have have health insurance? Currently unemployed.

I've experienced joint pain for over 10years now. It has moved from my ankles, hands/fingers and now my knees. Xrays of my hands years ago revealed no known processes; my knees show calcium buld up, but they say it is not related to area of pain. No matter the area effected, these symtoms always occurred: pain in the joint when touched, diffuculty moving joint, no visible signs of swelling. From 2002 till 2005 the joint pain was in my hands, from 2005 to 2008 my ankles, and from 2012 till now knees...Arthiritis has been ruled out because there is no deformity, blood work is negative and it is not seen on Xrays..Do you know of any disease process which would effect the movement of a joint, but have no physical signs of swelling, and can move to throughout the body to other joints? What could you? I've notice now that my joints"pop"alot....

Hi, I am a teacher. I have achilles tendinitis going on for 6 months and I can't seem to shake it. My ankle is swollen everyday. I recently began wearing an ankle brace to work and this seems to be helping. I don't hurt as bad when I get home from work but I still have the swelling. . When I went to the doctor for this problem he didn't think the brace would help. He said it would cause more problems. He did recommend stretching exercises. I do them when I think of it or have time during the day. Do you think I should continue with the brace for a while or make another appointment ASAP?

I would like to thank everyone for joining us this afternoon, terrific questions and understandably, pain and functional deficits can lead us to do a great many things to make it go away that we don't want to do. I feel like home remedies is great for a while, and it's what I do myself for aches and pains, but when they worsen or fail to improve, evaluation and treatment is appropriate so that we don't lose our ability to remain fit in our hearts and the rest of our bodies. Thank you. Dr. Bevilacqua, SMOC, Inc.

The recent innovations for joint replacement involve excellent pain control, special physical therapy to move walk on the day of surgery. Also, new alignment techniques extend the life expectancy of the artificial joint. The direct anterior hip replacement technique is the best method to get back into the game very quickly. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION. GOOD LUCK.
