Advances in anesthesia and pain control are allowing our Sentara OrthoJoint Center patients to get up and moving the day of surgery. The vast majority of shoulder surgery can be done with just regional anesthesia (nerve block) with sedation. This helps with post-operative pain and limits the risks associated with general anesthesia.

Remember....diagnosing the source of joint pain can start with a simple X-ray.

Thank you for taking these questions. I'm 34 and in average shape. When I was younger (15-21ish) I worked for a veterinary office. Every day I would drop down on my right knee to clean cages without a second thought. Of course it was a hard floor but I was young and it didn't bother me. Now I'm not as young. I get pain and a bit of swelling in my right knee occasionally and it is certainly weaker than the other. Is there anything I can do now to prevent it from any further deterioration or pain?

Is there a local doctor who treats patients for arthritis?
